Todays Impact Insider is a little story from the first time I was introduced to an organization that changed my life forever.
I met my now good friend Larry Tucker at a mastermind group in 2017. The mastermind was a group of entrepreneurs looking to make a bigger impact in the world by making their money matter.
Larry was in the real estate industry and so was I, so we had an instant connection.
But it was when Larry told me about what his family did that I really felt a deeper connection and wanted to learn more.
The Tucker family runs a nonprofit called The International Network of Hearts, which is an orphanage in Tijuana Mexico (just down from SanDiego) that supports children who have been rescued from child sex trafficking.
I had always heard about child sex trafficking but had never been exposed to it in any real capacity.
So when Larry invited me to come meet some of the kids at the orphanage and learn about the work they do, I nervously took the opportunity to join them.
I was 27 years old, pretty naive to the world, and didn’t really know what to expect.
I vividly remember asking Larry on our way down to Mexico how I could help these kids the most since I had no idea what I was getting into.
He said:
“It’s simple bro, they just want to be loved and know they are not going to be hurt! So just don’t be aggressive and treat them like normal kids”…
Once we got there, we made our intros, had some lunch, and got to spend the entire afternoon getting to learning all about their dreams and goals.
We played soccer, danced, and ate some good food.
Larry and his family have created such a safe space for these children and done such a great job caring for them, that you would never be able to tell they had been through some of the worst experiences in the world.
They were kids just like any normal kids.
…But I wanted to do something more and special for them! 🫶🏻
So I asked Larry, what makes these kids the happiest?
Well duh - ICECREAM!
We spent $50 on ice cream and I saw these kids smile ear to ear and dance around like it was Christmas morning.
It was in that moment I realized for just $50 and a few hours of my time, I could make a MASSIVE impact in their lives.
That memory will stay with me forever, and my support for Larry and his family will never stop.
If you are looking to get involved with an organization that supports child sex trafficking with boots-on-the-ground care, you can reply back to this email and I will happily make the intro to Larry and his family, or visit their website https://inhearts.org/
At the very least, I hope you realize that sometimes it’s not a million-dollar check people need, it’s just a little love and some icecream ❤️🍦
TLDR:
You meet really cool people at masterminds that are about more than just money
Getting out and experiencing impact is WAY more powerful then just donating
Kids are kids, no matter what they have been through
Something as little as $50 can make the biggest impact!
